Crows, Friedensohn like to say, are our emblematic bird. He profiled them, for his amusement, as gregarious, tribal, xenophobic, always making out, and without guilt. He imagined them loving battlefields, eating children, and driven to desperate acts. Like us, they hustle; and they dream of becoming eagles.
